ART DEFINITIONS
WHAT
IS ORIGINAL ART? Original art is art that has been created by the artist’s in his studio. It may or may not be unique. It is not the result of taking a photograph of an existing work of art. A
Multiple original
is one of the above works of art created in the same manner but he/she has
created more than one. Each were created in the same way and each were not
the result of taking a photograph of an existing work of art.
A reproduction is an image or object made from an already existing work of art. It may be painted by hand, which would then be a fake or copy. It may also be created from a photograph or casting, if 3 dimensional, as in sculptures. It most likely will not be created by the artist but by a 3rd party specializing in the reproduction of fine art. WHAT
IS A PRINT VS IMPRESSION? A print can be an original or a reproduction made using the action of printing called “the printing process”. All my art is created using impressions directly from a merged group of stencils called a matrix. An impression comes from a unique source. There is no classic printing action involved and each impression is made one at a time by me although I may still be called a printmaker in keeping with the classic terms. FINAL CONSIDERATION: The only thing that really matters is simply DO YOU LOVE THE ART? Size, shape, medium and technique should be your least concern respectively.
