Forest Light 1, 31 x 36, Mixed Media on Canvas
| This work takes me deep into the abstract world of nature again in the old growth forest in Kentville NS. For the first time I see more than mere twigs, branches and foliage. I feel a deliberate harmony that lives under a veneer of apparent randomness. The slanted fallen tree emerges from within a three dimensional composition giving a precarious balance to the work and a sense of loneliness. There is a layering backed by an under painting of coloured foliage. The branches in the top right reach like fingers above the undergrowth. The falling tree's limbs extend forward as if to ease its impending descent to the forest floor. All happening in time that is well stretched beyond our years but frozen by this work for us ever more. |
